thoughts on ink
i've always had this romantic notion that using one single pen for all my art is somehow the right choice. but experience tells me that isn't the case at all. i use a combination of dip pens, brushes, microns, fountain pens, and ballpoint pens and i couldn't imagine using just one. my dad inspired that notion and it's been one of many of his i've had to learn to drop from my own worldview. maybe it works for some, but for me, i love the variety. if i were to use any single pen it might have been the dip pen. there's a lot i can do with just that. but it's terrible for stippling and cross hatching and microns are without a doubt the best choice for that.
i think i know why
tiktok vs. instagram; the ultimate death battle of the me-show. vapid excuses for pseudo-intellectuals to gain clout, but it isn't even that because they aren't even trying at the pseudo side of it. at least try to disguise the fact that you are in reality a soulless shell of pretty filters. but here's the methuselah of socials, facebook. the land of cranky people who are afraid to lose relevance, but the jokes on them for they never had it in the first place. their outdated hatred and anger and slogans are rampant so long as fb doesn't have to go to court over anything. and let me tell you about the insane eggshells you gotta walk on so so your boomer conservative relative doesn't have an aneurysm. and then there's X, once upon a time a twittering loud cacophony of opinions, now is everything bad that letter ever stood for. X for poison, X for poor taste, X for a phony treasure, X left for dead. i think i know why i came back. and i know, this ol' bucket of a site has problems all its own. but at the end of the day, i miss getting to rant so freely with no particular reason in mind. so i guess i'll stick around.

i'm not sure why i'm here. i mean back on dA. not to say i have figured out why i'm cosmically here, either. i just am. i think i'm tired. yeah, that's the word. i got a little catching up to do. i go by Paddy and i am genderfluid, i'm accepting of all pronouns and will work to remember everyone else's. Michael is a dead name. please don't use it anymore. also more recently i've found myself to be ace and it has made my life a lot easier. like so many folx over the last seven years, i have become radicalized to the left and am so far bottom left i've become anarchic. not a lot else to say that i have wrecked my voice saying. i lost all faith in christianity but found a richness in nature i had not felt since i was free spirited little kid. anyway, i'll post some art this weekend. i don't mind if it gets noticed or not anymore. i hate the social media games. maybe that's why i came back. dunno. anyway, what's new with you folx?
What the hell, brain?
i wuz gonna give this a title like, "what dreams may come" or something lofty but decided this was more of the truth. i love the weirdness my sleeping brain seems to create tho i am no expert on any of it. but it does provide lotsa comic material. i spent a little while learning to lucid dream, but found it lackluster compared to letting dreams be free. so instead i run with the absurdity and let whatever happens happen. well, last night certainly gave me a doozy. the images were a jumbled mess but out that fog came a very clear Perry Como-esque song with these lines "Why did you fly with the flamingo in June with OCD?/She was playing Pokemon and arranging them all by color, type and alphabetically..." whatever the hell that all means. nonetheless i kinda wanna draw that now! well, here are some of my devs that grew directly out of the dreamscape... and so if the OCD flamingo offers to organize YOUR pokedex, you should just let her. clearly she knows what she's

My kid and I heard the song "I Like Shopping" or some such thing by them on the radio the other day. I thought it was a pretty terrible song, actually, but it made both of us laugh, and there is worth in that. I've had a soft spot in my heart for them ever since the PowerPuff girls, and their version of "Top of the World" is one of the reasons I own "If I Were a Carpenter," the other reason is that my wife is a HUGE Carpenters fan (which is a little bit sad). Sonic Youth's take on "Superstar" is probably my favorite bit, though. Nothing begs to be asked the question, "What the hell is this?" like that song.
